Friday Spotlight! Author of the Week:

Kiera Cass

Cass is a young adult author who’s first and only series is ‘The Selection.’ This series will consist of 5 novels and currently has 5 short stories to accompany the novels works. Currently released are The Selection, The Elite, and The One, and coming out May 5th, The Heir.

‘The Selection’ series is about young America signing up for the selection for her mother, so that she has an opportunity to compete with 34 other girls for prince Maxon’s love. The world that America lives in has been built upon castes and her being a number 5. The lower the number the richer you are. Through many trials of disobedience and that of keeping secrets, America must decide if she still wants to live in her old life or take a leap with Maxon and give her love away that was already promised to another?

This series is by far my favorite, but if you want to read further and haven’t read the series I don’t recommend it. Spoilers from here on out!

Cass’ next novel is The Heir. This novel focuses on America and Maxon’s daughter, Princess Eadlyn, and her own selection. This is a great transition to where we get to keep up with our favorite characters from the first half of the series, but get to meet some new ones as well. There will be one more novel after this one ending the selection series with Eadlyn’s story. Hopefully more short stories will be released so that we are able to see America and Maxon’s life together before The Heir.

On October 6th, 2015, there will be a novel release called Happily Ever After, it will be the complete companion novel to the series that will have four of the novellas from Cass, and bonus content for the series as well.

Cass has done a great job with making this series more than just a book. This is a world that you can get yourself lost in, and not just for a few hours, but for years to come. This is be a new classic, as it doesn’t go with the traditional dystopian novels, but made it it’s own.
