Today for my #MCM I want to focus on boys, well on boy in particular. And yes he is a boy, but I love that we get to see him grow up into the man that he is now. I wanted to do something more lovey dovey than my other #mcm’s have been! Ladies and Gentlemen I would like to introduce you to Aspen Leger from The Selection series by Kiera Cass.
When we first meet Aspen her is 19 and our last encounters with him was 20 years later with Maxon and America’s daughter. I love full circle characters ❤
What I love about Aspen though is his innocence. He loves so deeply and yes he was a lover to America, but he was never the one. I know guys get friend-zoned all the time, but this one was different. Aspen wasn’t just friend-zoned, but boyfriend-zoned. America was falling for Maxon while still trying to figure out her feelings for Aspen.
Even after all of the heartbreak Aspen goes through he still finds Lucy. It is fun to watch a secondary characters, especially one who has gone through so much, fall in love. It’s like yes I know there is a front story line, but look at what’s going on back there!
Did I mention that he is stupid crazy romantic and funny and all things lovable?! Also, sometimes a jackass ❤
Here are some of my favorite Aspen quotes:
“You’ll always have a piece of my heart, Mer, but I’m not in love with you anymore. I think sometimes that you still need me or want me, but I don’t know if that’s right. You deserve better than me being with you because I feel obligated.” — Aspen Leger to America Singer
“Everything I am is yours. And I promise you: tomorrow morning, come hell or high water, I will make this right.” — Aspen to Lucy
“That’s the only kind of love I’ve ever understood. When you love someone, you sacrifice. And I refused to let anyone do it for me. […] I wanted to be the hero. America and I would argue all the time about it. She was ready to go down a caste for me, but I couldn’t let her. I wanted to do all the giving, all the providing, all the protecting. To find that I’ve somehow done that by doing nothing at all. […] And you probably have no idea you’ve done the same thing for me. […] Every day you say something or do something that challenges me, changes me. You think you walk, Lucy? I think you fly. You see yourself in a uniform? I see you in a cape. You’re a hero, of the quietest but most genuine nature. That’s why you can’t give up. Heroes don’t give up. […] You’ve made me better. And I want to be better for you. I want to be better with you.” — Aspen to Lucy
Now that you have some quotes in your head about Aspen, let me introduce to you who I would choose to play him.
Aspen is this sweet kid who loves with his whole heart. His look is innocent and I think Asher would play the role perfectly. Just that look on his face, like he would be ok with sneaking around with America, or even catching small glances at Lucy.
