#WCW: Interview Style with the lovely Kandi Steiner! <3

So let’s just start off by saying I don’t think you all understand the magnitude of how fucking awesome today it. Today I’m going to introduce to you an author I met in March, but only just recently got to read one of her books, and guess what. It was a masterpiece! Yupp, I said it. By far one of my top three reads this year. What is even better is that this book, Weightless, releases TOMORROW! ONE DAY! AH!

Now who is this amazing author you ask? Well it could only be Kandi Steiner

First off, tell us a little bit about yourself.

Well, I’m super awkward. I LOVE craft beer, sweet wine, live music, fitness, cats, and bacon. I’m obsessed with Taylor Swift. I curse way too much. I’m passionate about building up other women and putting good vibes into the world. Oh, and I have a super hot husband with the best beard ever. 😉

Now for the questions:

How did you get started with writing? I have my third grade boyfriend to thank for getting me started writing (shout out to you, Alex) because he “broke my heart” and I started writing poetry. In middle school, I wrote, printed, and distributed my own school newspaper and got in trouble for it. I declared FREEDOM OF SPEECH! and kept writing it anyway. High school was filled with Yearbook and creative writing classes and then in college I majored in Creative Writing as one of my majors, where I honed in on my skills and had my first piece published. After I graduated, I took the plunge into indie publishing and the rest is history.

Have you ever hated something that you wrote?

Did you come back to it, or throw it out? My first “book” was written when I was in middle school and it was awful. I still have it, though. 😉 As for now? I hate what I write 99% of the time. But that’s what editing is for. And re-editing. And polishing. And editing again.

How did you come up with the story for Weightless?

Weightless was a very deep, very intense book for me. In fact, I’ve wanted to write it since before I wrote Black Number Four but I knew I needed to wait because I wasn’t ready yet. It’s hard to say exactly where I came up with the story, but I’ll just say I looked into the deepest part of my heart and wrote about my fears, insecurities, hopes and successes. I wrapped them into a character who then grew on her own into someone I never even knew I could write.

Who designed the covers for your books?

Me! 🙂

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? Give us some recommendations!

Oh man, SO many! Literally too many to name. I’ll just drop a few that are in my head right now: Staci Hart, Brittainy C. Cherry, Tijan, Cora Carmack, Karla Sorensen, Cassie Graham, Jamie McGuire… I could go on and on but it would take up an entire book! Follow me on Goodreads for all my book recs. 🙂

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I appreciate you reading my words more than I could ever articulate. Come be my friend on social media! We can braid each other’s hair and skip down the street to get froyo.
